KENFAP officially launched some of the quality branded products from Mt. Kenya World Heritage Site. The occasion was held at Warwick Centre on 3rd December, 2009. KENFAP has partnered with UNDP-Global Environmental Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme and Community Management of Protected Areas Conservation (COMPACT), in conservation of the Mt. Kenya Eco System. The most unique and innovative initiative in this partnership is the identification and involvement of agricultural producers from the region in a branding exercise carrying with it conservation messages on their products destined for local and international markets. This process involves a comprehensive identification process of quality products from the region, re-designing the branded labels and inserting conservation messages on them. The aim is to acknowledge Mt. Kenya as a world heritage site by promoting conservation and protection efforts of this fragile eco-system. Among the branded products is Elims Water, produced through a natural spring and packed at Chogoria. These products will be released to the markets after the official launch. Other quality products emanating from the region are also destined for branding and this includes Mwea rice and packed tea from the region’s tea factories. Branding Of Quality Products from this region provides an apt opportunity to promote conservation and creation of awarness to kenyans and the world at large that without conservation efforts, they may not get or porovide those quality products that they have all along cherished or even taken for granted |
